Old Bridge, New Jersey (November 28, 2016) – Dr. Anthony J. DeLuca, director of DeLuca Family Chiropractic in Old Bridge, New Jersey, recently attended to the medical needs of hundreds of Olympic hopefuls and athletes working out at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Dr. DeLuca was chosen for this two-week internship based on his chiropractic expertise and the medical services provided at numerous national and international events over the past 20 years

“This was a tremendous opportunity that not only provided the ability to work with some of the best athletes in the country, but also share and gain valued knowledge with many of the nation’s finest trainers, coaches, and medical professionals,” said DeLuca. “We were all there for two reasons – to learn and grow as experts in our respective fields and be part of this very special atmosphere, which is actively dedicated to advancing the skill sets of individuals looking to represent the U.S. on the world stage.”

The Chula Vista Olympic Training Center is a 155-acre complex located adjacent to the Lower Otay Reservoir in San Diego County. The year-round, warm-weather facility is committed to developing future Olympic athletes. It includes sport venues and support facilities supporting the Olympic sports of archery, BMX, canoe/kayak, cycling, field hockey, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and triathlon.

A Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and personal fitness trainer, DeLuca cared for athletes suffering from a multitude of traumatic and overuse injuries such as tennis elbow, hip pointers, groin pulls. and neck, back, shoulder hamstring, quadricep and glute strains and sprains.  From October 2 – 16 at Chula Vista, -these services involved rapidly assessing the severity of on-field injuries, performing orthopedic and neurological exams, and treating patients both onsite and in the center’s clinic. Therapies included soft tissue and manual manipulation, kenesio taping, and recommendations for strengthening and stretching exercises to relieve pain and increase range-of-motion.

“It was a deeply rewarding experience that provided a far greater understanding of the athletic needs of competitors performing in a wide range of sports,” explains DeLuca. “Learning and growing are keys to this profession and the delivery of the highest levels of care to office patients. My goal is to continue on this path, while one-day hopefully serving my country as a USOC medical professional at an upcoming Olympics.”

Dr. De Luca founded DeLuca Family Chiropractic in 1989 to provide a supportive environment to patients looking for gentle, effective and safe methods for treating pain and achieving optimal health and wellness.

In 2015, Dr. DeLuca was chosen by the Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport (FICS) to support the medical needs of athletes participating in the 4th International Workers and Amateurs in Sports Confederation (CSIT) World Sports Games in Lignano, Italy. As an Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sport Science Practitioner (ICSSP), he was responsible for attending to participants in tennis as well as supplying his services at the clinic centrally located to most athletic activities.

Prior to this, Dr. DeLuca served on the medical staff of the Great Britain team competing in the 2012 World Figure Skating Championships held in Nice, France and was among the first group of chiropractors chosen to officially deliver sports chiropractic care at the Poly Clinic of the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. He has also served as team doctor for the Great Britain and Republic of Georgia ice dancing teams competing in the 2010 and 2009 World Figure Skating Championships held respectively in Italy and Los Angeles, Calif., the Israeli team competing at the 2007 World Skating Championships in Japan and the Great Britain team entered in Skate America 2006. Other notable sporting events where he applied his medical expertise include the ongoing tournaments of the Professional Bowling Association, the Garden State Games and the Race for the Cure.

Dr. DeLuca holds a Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic from Sherman College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, B.A. from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He is a graduate of the Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine in Montclair, NJ. A certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, Dr. DeLuca is also an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, International Federation of Sports Chiropractic, American Chiropractic Association, American Chiropractic Association Sports Council, Association of New Jersey Chiropractors, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and American Fitness and Athletic Association.

National University names Dr. Christopher Arick Assistant Dean of Chiropractic Medicine Program

ChrisArickDr. Christopher Arick, DC, MS, has been appointed as the Assistant Dean of the Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine program at National University of Health Sciences.

In this role, he will oversee the various academic elements of the chiropractic medicine program, including curriculum development and evaluation along with interactive learning between the Florida and Illinois sites. He will maintain close relationships with other university programs as well as local, state and national organizations. In addition, he will play an integral role with the university’s accreditation efforts.

Dr. Arick previously served as chiropractic program faculty member at the NUHS Florida site since 2012. He has now relocated to the Lombard campus for the new role. “I am looking forward to finding new ways to engage students,” Dr. Arick said. “I think this is going to be key in maintaining high standards at NUHS.”

After graduating with his DC degree from NUHS in 2005, he spent six years in private practice. Once he started participating in panel discussions and presentations at health facilities, becoming an instructor at NUHS seemed like a natural next step. Since then, Dr. Arick has become passionate about the future of integrative medicine education along with the overall growth and reputation of the chiropractic medicine profession.

“We’re excited to have Dr. Arick taking on the responsibilities of Assistant Dean of the Chiropractic program,” said Dr. Robert Shiel, NUHS dean of the College of Professional Studies IL. “His background and passion in education and integrative medicine are important assets to the NUHS community, and I believe his experience and understanding of our Florida campus will help promote even more communication and cooperation between our two sites.”

In addition to working on PhD research analyzing integrative medicine education, Dr. Arick has recently been added to the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health’s Working Education Group, a group of health professionals who identify and advance educational projects that foster inter-disciplinary understanding and respect among professions.

One of Dr. Arick’s goals as assistant dean is to build on the integrative health curricula initiated by other faculty members, including Dr. Ezra Cohen, who retired from the position in December. “In that way students are not only prepared with clinical knowledge, but become ready for first-hand experiences in our clinical system and their future endeavors,” he said.

Dr. Arick is also a big proponent for advanced practice within the chiropractic medicine profession. He hopes to encourage more students to complete additional degrees and certifications, depending on their interests.

At National University, students have the unique advantage of earning multiple degrees all on one campus. In addition to Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), students can also earn degrees in Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND), Master of Science in Acupuncture (MSAc), Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM), and a certificate in Massage Therapy (MT).

“Some students may approach patients in different ways and I think that is one of many great things about the chiropractic medicine profession – that we already have that integrative mindset here at National University,” Dr. Arick said.

National University of Health Sciences, a not-for-profit educational institution with locations in Illinois and Florida, was founded in 1906. National University sets the standard in training for careers in health care, offering graduate degrees in chiropractic medicine, naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and oriental medicine as well as undergraduate degrees in massage therapy and biomedical sciences. A historic leader in evidence-based health care, National University publishes three medically indexed scientific journals. National University also provides whole health patient-centered care in its five integrative medical clinics. More information about NUHS can be found at www.nuhs.edu.

Spring 2017 Seminar News From Activator

ACTIVATOR ANNOUNCES SEMINAR INNOVATION
Streamlined Approach is a Match for Busy Lives

(PHOENIX) – Activator Methods International®, the pioneering creator of the world’s most popular chiropractic adjusting instruments, has announced a set of major innovations to its successful seminars presented in the United States and abroad.
Beginning in January 2017 seminars will now be taught in one day, empowering busy doctors to improve the level of care they provide patients while reducing the time away from their practice and their families. These new classes are streamlined, and now offer a more focused and effective learning experience.
In addition, participants who complete the new, lower-cost seminars will still be eligible for eight hours of Continuing Education credits available through Palmer College of Chiropractic and may test for an Activator Proficiency or Advanced Proficiency rating.
Until now, Activator seminars had been taught in a 1.5 day format that – in many cases – made an overnight stay a necessity and asked doctors to forfeit a whole weekend for the sake of their professional development.
“We listened carefully to seminar participants and then put that feedback into action,” said Dr. Arlan Fuhr, Chairman and co-founder of Activator Methods International. “We launched an immense effort to track down new approaches and new teaching tools that allow us to deliver better training in less time.”
Activator seminars teach the latest, research-based Activator curriculum, with an emphasis on practical, real-world, hands-on advice and expertise. Led by Advanced Proficiency Rated doctors with years of clinical practice experience, Activator seminars tracks cover Fundamentals (the Basic Activator Protocol), Instrument Adjusting for Extremities and Clinical Topics. The updated classes also come with a lower tuition price tag: doctors may attend for $350, new doctors for $99 and – in honor of Activator’s 50th anniversary in 2017, students may attend for just $50.
The Activator Methods is the most widely used low-force adjusting technique in the world, with thousands of doctors in the U.S. and internationally holding a Proficiency or Advanced Proficiency Rating. Activator has been the subject of 23 clinical trials (and is the only adjusting instrument with clinical trials), and has more than 150 peer-reviewed research articles to its credit.
Activator CEO Judi Fuhr commented, “Research and education are the driving forces behind everything we do at Activator. We are pleased beyond measure to be able to offer practitioners a way to balance their personal and professional lives while maintaining their skills in this gentle, safe and effective method of adjusting that has provided relief and wellness to hundreds of thousands of patients.”
Activator Methods International® is home to the full line of Activator® instruments and the Activator Method® of chiropractic instrument adjusting. Founded on the principles of clinical research, Activator Methods International has been providing chiropractic care, resources and training since 1967.  For more information please visit www.activator.com

Foot Levelers Gears Up for Next Practice Xcelerator ProgramTM, Invitation-Only Training for DCs with Renowned Sports Chiropractor Dr. Tim Maggs

Proven to Grow Practices and Improve Outcomes, Next Sessions Take Place Oct. 27th and Nov. 17th Near Albany, NY

img_6845Roanoke, VA—October 6, 2016—Foot Levelers recently launched the Practice Xcelerator ProgramTM, a
partnership with renowned sports Chiropractor Dr. Tim Maggs of New York. Described as a “intensive training for DCs who are serious about improving their ‘orthotics game,’” the half-day session features training on Dr. Maggs’ Structural Fingerprint Exam®, with a strong emphasis on 3D digital scanning of the feet, radiology, and laser, among other protocols. Nearly 20 hand-selected doctors from around the country attended the first session on September 15th.

Dr. Maggs first developed the Structural Fingerprint Exam over 25 years ago while working with the New York Giants. Noting that care for players was focused on reacting to injuries, rather than preventing them, Dr. Maggs developed a system of pinpointing biomechanical and structural weaknesses in the body—weaknesses that could lead to injury. Using this preventative approach, all of Dr. Maggs’ patients walk away with an injury-prevention plan, which includes custom-made functional orthotics from Foot Levelers. Foot Levelers’ custom-made orthotics are research- proven to help correct pedal instabilities, absorb shock, and improve biomechanics to help reduce risk of injury.

The first Practice Xcelerator Program was a great success. Attendee Dr. Susan Cunico from Sandyson, NJ described it as “a top-notch event… I was able to learn pearls from Dr. Maggs and apply them to my practice the next day. I have been wanting to work with more athletes… Dr. Maggs and Foot Levelers have given us the tools, data, aFootlevelers Teamnd research.”

Proven to grow practices and improve outcomes, the next Practice Xcelerator Program sessions take place Oct. 27th and Nov. 17th near Albany, NY. DCs can request an invitation at FootLevelers.com/TrainingCenter and view the video at Vimeo.com/FootLevelers to learn more.
