Be Aware of Your Gifts

There are no guarantees in life. We all come into the world with our own unique personalities and gifts. Your purpose is to steer your path toward those channels that will enable you to most effectively express your gifts in a positive way. With an open mind, you can remain cognizant of the opportunities the world presents to you, and you can make a difference.

From a very young age, we learn what we care about. We learn, through stories, examples, movies, and personal experiences, those ideas that capture our imagination. We discover our gifts, and we receive positive affirmation when we use our gifts to show compassion toward others.

Take time to explore your gifts. If you are sensitive to the needs of animals, for example, look for ways to learn and give more. Spending an afternoon at your local animal shelter or simply volunteering to walk a dog for an elderly neighbor are opportunities to give from your heart in a way that honors your gifts.

Be a giver. You can talk about giving until you’re blue in the face, but you can only learn the real lessons in life from what you do. Do you give freely of your time and the things you treasure? Do you offer to help when someone is in need? Do you serve as a role model of a socially conscious, giving individual? Or are you too busy, too stressed, or too self-absorbed to give? It’s a tough question, one that we all must ask ourselves regularly.

Discuss opportunities to give with your family, friends, and community. Expand your awareness of the world and open your mind to the many places that your gifts can make a difference. The problems of the world can seem overwhelming when taken in at once but, gradually and selectively, your giving can make a real difference.
