George B. Curry, DC, DACS, FICA, LCP (hon) recently stepped forward to serve as the 18th President of the International Chiropractors Association (ICA). A 1982 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, Dr. Curry was sworn into office by Dr. Selina Sigafoose-Jackson, ICA Secretary-Treasurer, on May 1, 2015 at the 89th ICA Annual Meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Curry brings an impressive range of organizational and management skills, political insights and clinical experience to his new leadership position with ICA, including active roles in his local and professional communities and also a profound commitment to service. He has energetically contributed to the growth and leadership of the Connecticut Chiropractic Council (CCC), most recently holding the position of Chairman of the Board. Committed to professional development and education in chiropractic, he has served as an Extended Faulty member for Palmer College, Logan College, Life University and The University of Bridgeport Chiropractic College. Dr. Curry stated in his inaugural comments to the ICA leadership at its 2015 Annual Meeting that:
“The chiropractic profession is facing a critical time and never before have clarity and clear-cut communications been more urgent. It is my intention to significantly enhance ICA’s communications, both within the profession and to the public at large. The ICA will continue to anchor its policies and actions in chiropractic’s timeless and proven principles while applying cutting edge strategies and technologies. We recognize the unique service of vertebral subluxation detection and correction that only the chiropractic profession can provide, and its role in worldwide optimal health expression. We are committed to focusing on and advancing principled chiropractic as the powerful force in health care it must be, in order to meet the needs of patients of all ages in communities around the world.”
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Curry has also served outside the US, performing Chiropractic Mission work in Poland. He is active in patient and public education including regular appearances as a syndicated television host for “Today’s Health”. Dr. Curry has provided chiropractic care to many professional athletes and entertainers and has served as a team chiropractor for multiple professional teams including basketball and football.
Repeatedly acknowledged for his extensive contributions to the profession and his record of dedicated service, Dr. Curry’s many recognitions include being honored as ICA Representative Assemblyman of the Year in 1997, as Chiropractor of the Year by the Connecticut Chiropractic Council in 2000, and with the ICA Leadership and Services Award in 2013. Dr. Curry’s professional affiliations include recognition as a Distinguished Fellow of the ICA and receiving the FICA Dedicated Service Award in 2010, as well as being inducted as a Fellow in the prestigious Palmer College Academy in 2009.
Dr. Curry lives and practices in Windsor, CT with his wife Kerry and their 7 children. His oldest son and daughter are Palmer College graduates and his youngest son and daughter are chiropractic students.
The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) is the oldest continuously active international chiropractic organization in the world. Founded in 1926 by Dr. B.J. Palmer, the ICA represents thousands of practitioners, educators, students and lay persons, and supports and advances the interests of chiropractic, chiropractors, and the patients they serve through advocacy, research, and education. Throughout its long history, the ICA has continued to educate and inform the public, other health care professions, and health policy makers on the principles and definitions of chiropractic to foster clarity for a broader understanding and acceptance of the profession as a distinct healing philosophy, science and art.
