National University Students Present Posters at Sports Medicine Event

nuhsnewsrelease

Lombard – Six National University students have been selected to present posters at the 2012 American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians Sports Medicine National Symposium held the last week in April in Portland, Oregon. They’ve worked on the posters in conjunction with faculty member, Dr. Thomas Solecki, who has been bringing students to the event since 2008.

This year, student presenters include Rich Ulm, Theresa Gay, Ashley Boller, Miravone Dorough, Nate Porcher and Joe Pizowkin. These students have been in Dr. Solecki’s functional rehabilitation or elective courses at NUHS, studying clinical sports medicine applications.

This year’s NUHS student poster topics include:soleckithomas

  • Gluteal Activation in Combination with Active Release Therapy in the Treatment of Illiotibial Band Friction Syndrome.
  • Treatment of Muscular Imbalance in 23-Year-Old Male Athlete with Femoral Intramedullary Enchondroma.
  • Successful Treatment of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and Cervical Disc Herniation Causing C6-7 Radiculopathy via McKenzie Technique®, Reflex Locomotion, Active Release Technique® and Chiropractic Manipulation.
  • Use of Active Conservative Care Techniques in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
  • Sports Related Concussions: Are These Athletes Really Ready to Return to Play?
  • Chronic Traumatic Encephalitis and Early Onset Neurodegenerative Disorders: New Defining Evidence.

Dr. Solecki says that involving students in research was one of his main missions when he arrived at NUHS. “Right now, I have four research projects I’m working on with students. My latest publication, co-authored by student Kurt Hostnick, began as a poster presentation for this very same sports medicine symposium.” That article came out this month in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine.

Evidence based practice is a key component of National University’s curriculum. “Working together with faculty on research posters is a great way to involve the students in work that can provide additional resources to the chiropractic profession, and give them
motivation to publish their research,” says Solecki.

Chiropractors are IN BUSINESS; and yet – ironically – they spend little to no time training to be business people. It has been determined that one of the most leverageable activities that a chiropractor can engage in is the effective acquisition of business skills. We believe that the only way to increase the volume of long-term chiropractic patient penetration is to scale the profession through proven, Foundational Principles of Business.

Tune in to learn how other chiropractors have doubled the top-line revenue of their practices by implementing these proven strategies.

Promoting the Chiropractic Profession Thru Indy Car Racing

chiroindy500For both John Wagner, D.C., Davenport ’76, who practices in Lafayette, Ind., and Dr. Wagner’s son, Brandon—chiropractic and auto racing go hand in hand and not only is Chiropractic a family affair, Dad is a Palmer Graduate, Brandon’s sister is a student at Palmer Davenport where Brandon plans to attend after graduating Purdue this year. Brandon’s other brother Nick, is also a competitive racer who enjoys racing midgets.

For Dr. John Wagner and his son, Brandon, the combination of auto racing and chiropractic makes sense for several reasons. First it keeps Brandon, who competes in Firestone Indy Lights series races, in prime form for the physical demands of his sport. “I want my body to perform at 100 percent when I’m racing, and with chiropractic care, I know I am physically prepared,” Brandon says. He attends Purdue University with plans to enroll at Palmer’s Davenport Campus in a year, and his goal is to be the first chiropractic student to race in the Indianapolis 500.

Secondly, both Dr. Wagner and Brandon want to increase public awareness of chiropractic by exposing more people to it through Brandon’s racing career. “My primary goal is to race in the Indy 500,” Brandon says. “This will allow me to expose chiropractic to the largest number of auto racing spectators in the world—more than 90 million on race day alone!”

Having been born and raised in Indiana, Dr. Wagner and his wife, Shari’s, children grew up attending races of all kinds, especially the Indianapolis 500. “When our boys showed an interest in racing,” he says, “they began at the ground level. GoKarting led to Ford Focus Midgets, then national midgets, and now the opportunity to participate in the biggest spectacle in racing. We have been Brandon’s biggest fans, promoting him locally through various businesses, who in time became sponsors. My support for Brandon’s racing career is easy because I share his racing passion, but most of all I get to spend valuable time with him.”

Dr. Wagner founded www.chiroracing.net, a practice management organization that also raises sponsorship funds for Brandon’s racing. “I got the idea from another young racer who is sponsored by a diabetes drug company. I felt that chiropractic should be given equal time as a sponsor of a promising young racer. We are trying to showcase chiropractic in a positive light by combining racing and chiropractic.”

Immediate action needed by APRIL 14th!

Chiropractic never sounded so good!!

We are about to make history, as this will be the first time ever, that there is a Chiropractic student driving an Indy car in the Indianapolis 500, and it is also the first time an indy car will be sponsored by the Chiropractic profession as a whole, and have the word CHIROPRACTIC proudly displayed on the sidepods of the indycar.

Can you name an event, where there is a steady market penetration to over 90 Million homes from just one event alone? The answer to that is the prestigious Indianapolis 500. It is this format, that we plan to to drive the Chiropractic message into the homes of those suffering with conditions our profession sees on a daily basis. In an unprescetented move, chiroracing.net will be entering the homes of people who need to hear us. So it wont matter if they are in Anchorage Alaska with an unrelenting Headache, or in Key West with a relapse of Sciatica, because if they are watching the race, they are watching the word Chiropractic flash by the screen lap after lap.  It is this visual repetitiveness that should cause the viewer to take action and call a Chiropractor on Monday, because they saw the Chiroracing.net indycar race on Sunday. The viewership for the Indianapolis 500 is more then the Daytona 500 and the superbowl.

Now comes the Biggest Spectacle in Racing, the Prestigious Indianapolis 500, the biggest race in the world, to be seen by over 90 Million people world wide. To deliver this message, it wont be cheap. To run the Indianapolis 500 it will cost 600K. We encourage the profession to see the value of what we are trying to accomplish here, and stand behind us and donate what they feel comfortable with, so we can make this marketing campaign successful. There isn’t a better place to put 600K, that will have such a huge impact of the chiropractic profession as this will. That is a number we should be able to pull together just by the strength in numbers the chiropractic profession has.

My goal for chiroracing.net is to provide the platform to get the Chiropractic message out to more people then ever before, and we can do this by turning to the Chiropractors and their associations to see how many stand up and rise to the call to preserve, and advance public knowledge of Chiropractic.  The driver of the CHIRORACING.net’s CHIROPRACTIC Indy car, is a soon to be Chiropractor himself. Which is also a FIRST for the Indianapolis 500! That would equate to more air/face/print media time with Brandon Wagner (Driver)speaking on behalf of us, and the profession he loves.
We are going to do our part ON THE TRACK, we are looking for help OFF THE TRACK as far as getting sponsor/donations money in to help fund this venture. It benefits all of us.

Our time has FINALLY arrived!! And it’s going fly by if we don’t roll up our sleeves collectively on Friday APRIL 14th!! It is time for YOU to become part of history we won’t see again!!

chiromiamispeedwayOur mission at Chiroracing.net is to get the CHIROPRACTIC word out to the more then 95 MILLION households and 500,000 Trackside spectators at that the prestigious Indianapolis 500 mile race this May!! Pending further funding, we will continue to compete in more races across the country! We have the American Chiropractic Association standing strong on us with this venture. Now the only ingredient we are missing, IS YOU!!!

This Indy car is just as much YOURS as it is ours! We have the message to deliver, and we have the indycar driver to do it, a fellow future Chiropractor. What we are asking of everyone in the profession, from Chiropractic student, to Chiropractor, to Chiropractic patient, to stand behind this unprecedented event in History!! Not only will it be the FIRST CHIROPRACTIC SPONSORED INDY CAR, but it is also the FIRST TIME we will have a proven Indycar winner driving this message in homes of over 95 million, for You, me, your school, and everyone in between who has the benefitted from the Chiropractic profession.

We are going to call APRIL 14th the Last day for Chiropractic students/faculty/Chiropractors in practice, to donate from their heart, what they see fit to become part of this history making event. If everyone donates a little, it keeps our message of Chiropractic advancement in the media! Those watching the race in your town will benefit from this as well. So PLEASE send donations to us at www.chiroracing.net and rest assured, your donation means a lot to us, and more importantly to our profession.

You can check in periodically, to see how your school/state stacked up with the others across the country, and we will keep you all apprised on our progress. When placing the donation, remember, put in what you feel comfortable with. A $20 donation gets us $20 closer to our goal!

Remember we have to have all donations, small and large to Chiroracing.net ON APRIL 14th!! Thanks in advance. Time is getting short, and we need to get our Chiropractor out there practicing!

Hope you find the information informative, and we hope you are willing to roll up your sleeves and become “honorary Indy Car owners” in this Chiropractic road to Indy! Please visit Chiroracing.net for further information, and PLEASE DONATE FOR THIS UNPRECEDENTED CHIROPRACTIC MARKETING FORMAT! Parker University’s Dr. Fabrizio Mancini Debuts Chiropractic Message on Dr. Phil Show

drphilshow2DALLAS, March 15, 2012 – Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker University, appeared in an episode of the Dr. Phil show where he presented concepts of wellness and how chiropractic integrates into a healthy lifestyle. He also spoke about his new book, The Power of Self-Healing: Unlock Your Natural Healing Potential in 21 Days!, which includes information about living the chiropractic lifestyle of health and wellness. Dr. Phil, the popular daytime talk show, airs on more than 200 television stations across the U.S. and in more than 40 countries worldwide. The Dr. Phil show has a viewership of nearly 21 million weekly viewers, while online the show has more than 2 million unique followers per day.

“I’m so glad to have had this opportunity and I’m thrilled that so many people around the world heard about chiropractic and the body’s natural ability to heal,” said Dr. Mancini. “This was a tremendous victory for our profession. There is a movement starting and the time is now to get the message of chiropractic and natural healing to the masses.”

Dr. Phil McGraw, a clinical psychologist with 25 years in practice, provides advice and makes psychology accessible and understandable to the general public. Dr. Phil received chiropractic care from Dr. Mancini for years while he lived in the Dallas, Texas area and told viewers, “I got chiropractic treatment from you [Dr. Mancini] two or three times a week,” said Dr. Phil.

Dr. Phil explained that Dr. Mancini didn’t just treat his back, which is a common misconception of chiropractic care; he helped him with his overall health physically, mentally, and spiritually. He went on to introduce his current chiropractor in Los Angeles, Dr. Patrick DeFazio, a Parker alumnus, who talked more about chiropractic and how it helps relieve stresses on the body.

Dr. Mancini explained the body’s natural ability to heal. “Our bodies are self-healing and self-regulating, so that means that we are already born to heal naturally,” said Dr. Mancini.

In addition, he expressed the importance of taking control of your health and advised viewers to move their bodies and exercise regularly.

drphilshow3“We have to make better choices,” said Dr. Mancini. “Almost over 80 percent of the diseases that we have today are made because of the choices we make on a physical plane.”

Later in the show, Dr. Mancini and Dr. Phil helped Joe, a guest on the show, overcome emotional and physical stress due to a traumatic childhood experience when a drunk driver hit his family’s vehicle, killing his father and sister, injuring his mother, and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Joe, now 45, was holding on to 40 years of anger and pain.

Dr. Mancini talked about the significance of chiropractic care for Joe and stressed the importance of forgiveness, explaining how it will assist him in moving forward and accepting what he cannot change.

Dr. Mancini also explained that chiropractors see patients as well, not as sick individuals. “The difference between chiropractic and the “sick care system” in the U.S. is that we assume the patient is well and not sick,” said Dr. Mancini. “My job is to try to figure out any possible way to naturally facilitate that self-healing inside of yourself and address the cause of the problem, not just manage symptoms.”

After the show, numerous people working on the set asked how they could find a local chiropractor or remarked how much they had learned about chiropractic.

To celebrate this historic event, Parker University held a watch party on campus for students, faculty, and staff during the airing of the show.

Visit drphil.com to find more information about the episode.

Top NYC Chiropractor Steven Shoshany Appears on The Dr. Oz Show for a Second Time

doctorozshow2Dr. Steven Shoshany, one of NYC’s top chiropractors, was a guest on the Emmy-award winning NBC program, The Dr. Oz Show on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.  A clip of Dr. Shoshany’s segment is available via The Dr. Oz Show‘s website:

http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/best-back-pain-solutions-pt-2

The purpose of Dr. Shoshany’s appearance on The Dr. Oz Show was to show how safe, effective, and easy chiropractic treatments are to eliminate back pain by addressing and correcting the root cause of the problem.  Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed how recent studies show that chiropractic and physical therapy should be a patient’s first choice and are the best bets in the fight against back pain.  Dr. Oz presented chiropractic adjustments as a superior choice over painkillers and surgery for the treatment of back pain, which the acclaimed surgeon believes are over-prescribed and not necessary in most cases.  Back surgery is only recommended for critical cases where the damage is irreversible and would not respond to other types of treatment.

In his practice, Dr. Shoshany educates patients on the dangers of prescription painkillers, which should be reserved for extreme cases of severe pain.  According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one person dies from prescription drug overuse every 19 minutes in the United States.  As hazardous and unsafe as painkillers can be, they are prescribed with alarming frequency.  Long-term use of prescription painkillers can cause permanent liver, kidney, gastrointestinal, and brain damage, as well as cardiac and respiratory failure, which can lead to death.

During his segment on The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Shoshany talked to Dr. Oz about the long-term health benefits of regular chiropractic adjustments as a treatment for pain as well as a valuable preventive measure.  Dr. Shoshany wrapped up his segment by performing an adjustment on an audience member who was suffering from back pain.  This allowed the public to see that chiropractic is not a complicated science, but is rather a simple, straightforward, natural remedy for pain and other ailments.  Dr. Oz’s audience and viewers had a first-hand look at the ease with which an adjustment can restore comfort and well-being without the harmful risks and side effects that are associated with more mainstream treatment options.

ABOUT DR. STEVEN SHOSHANY, D.C.:

Regarded as one of Manhattan’s top chiropractors, Dr. Steven Shoshany is an internationally-recognized pioneering innovator in the field of spinal decompression, being one of the first doctors to offer the revolutionary non-surgical treatment in New York City.  A graduate of Life University’s class of 1996, Dr. Shoshany is certified in Active Release Techniques (ART) and has been successfully practicing in the downtown Manhattan area since 1999, where he currently resides with his wife and children.  Dr. Shoshany has been featured as an expert in several publications and television shows, including CBS This Morning, NBC’s Today, and The Dr. Oz Show.  For more information on Dr. Shoshany, please visit www.drshoshany.com.

Life University Launches New Tour: LIFE in Your City

Nationwide, nine-city tour will feature Continuing Education, Student Recruitment and Special Seminar for Chiropractic Patients

lifeulogoMarietta, Georgia, March 6, 2012 – Life University (LIFE) continues to carry the torch for the profession, announcing a nationwide, nine‐city tour designed to help the profession help itself. LIFE in Your City is a three day event in each city, and provides elements that will help DCs earn continuing education, allow their patients to hear the chiropractic message from Life University president Dr. Guy Riekeman, and take part in attracting the next generation of chiropractors.

“We need more chiropractors, and we need better patient education,” said Riekeman. “LIFE in Your City is designed to accomplish both these elements, as well as providing an incentive to engaged chiropractors with continuing education.” The program will also serve as a tool to help chiropractors grow their practice.

LIFE in Your City will commence April 19‐21 in Miami, Florida. The three days will include state‐approved continuing education on Thursday, along with a special presentation for patients. Friday and Saturday will be about getting prospective students interested in the profession via dynamic speakers, hands‐on activities and special presentations.
