Logan University Appoints Director and Dean

LOGAN UNIVERSITY APPOINTS SHERRI A. COLE, PhD, AS DEAN OF ITS COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES

(ST. LOUIS–) Sherri A. Cole, PhD, has been named the dean of Logan University’s College of Health Sciences. She will report to Dr. Carl Saubert, Logan’s vice president of academic affairs. The College of Health Sciences grants Master of Science degrees in Sports Science and Rehabilitation and in Nutrition and Human Performance, as well as Bachelor of Science degrees in Life Science and in Human Biology. The College also offers undergraduate coursework through an Accelerated Science Program.

 

Before joining Logan, Dr. Cole spent six years as the dean of allied health and professional development at Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Canton, Ohio. While in that position, she developed the school’s allied health division within the Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She was also an associate professor on the Aultman faculty and taught radiation physics. She was director of radiology at Aultman Hospital from 2001 to 2007 and, prior to that time, worked for several hospitals in Ohio as a registered radiologic technologist and mammographer. She is a decorated military veteran.

“We are very pleased to have someone with Dr. Cole’s experience as our dean of the college of health sciences,” said Logan President Dr. Clay McDonald. “She is a great addition to our academic

management team.”

Dr. Cole holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Malone University and a Master of Business Administration from Baker College of Graduate Studies. She received her PhD in Applied Management and Decision Sciences at Walden University where she graduated summa cum laude.

Dr. Cole has served as a consultant to the Chancellor of the state of Ohio, reviewing programs for the Ohio Board of Regents (OBR). She is a member of the U.S. Distance Learning Association (USDLA), Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology, Inc (ACERT), and the Association of Educators in Imaging and Radiologic Sciences, Inc. (AEIRS).

Logan’s sports and rehabilitation center provides student interns with training in the management of injuries in a clinical setting and is part of the clinical training in sports injury management for Logan’s Master of Science in Sports Science & Rehabilitation degree. The center follows the “total body concept of wellness” that augments manipulative treatment strategies to accelerate patient recovery and wellness.

Dr. Parish has extensive experience in chiropractic sports injury care and rehabilitation including work as a team physician with professional, college and high school sports teams. He served as one of the Team USA physicians at the ParaPan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2011 and the Paralympics in London in 2012. He holds a Diplomate from the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians (ABCSP) and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Dr. Parish also holds the International Chiropractic Sports Science Diploma (ICSSD) from the International 

Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS) as well as a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach from USA Weightlifting.

“I started teaching in Logan’s Postgraduate program years ago and have always been impressed by the school’s academic and clinical leadership,” said Dr. Parish. “Taking over the reins of Logan’s sports and rehabilitation center is a great opportunity because it enables me to combine my love of sports medicine and chiropractic in a clinical teaching environment.”

Logan President Dr. Clay McDonald added, “We are very fortunate that someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Dr. Parish will be following in Dr. Nelson’s footsteps as the director of the BIOFREEZE Sports & Rehabilitation Center at Logan. Dr. Nelson has done an incredible job in creating this nationally recognized program and I am confident Dr. Parish will build on that success.”

For the past 17 years, Dr. Parish has been affiliated with National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill., where he was an assistant professor of clinical practice. Since 2006, he has served as National’s dean of clinics and is also member of the faculty at National’s Lincoln College of Postprofessional Graduate & Continuing Education. He was in private practice in Illinois for 13 years and in Indiana for nine years.

Dr. Parish earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology from DePauw University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from National. He graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from National in 1984. In 2012, he secured his Master of Science degree in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.

Dr. Parish is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the American Chiropractic Association Council on Sports Injury, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the United States Olympic Committee – Sports Medicine Society.
