A Different Twist on Chiropractic: My Story of Head Line News Anchor Robin Meade’s Chiropractic Experience

When Robin Meade, anchor of HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade, had her first panic attack on air, she didn’t know what it was. Once she figured it out, she didn’t know what to do about it. Little did she expect that her husband, Tim, would suggest I try to help her. A chiropractor? Tim had been my patient at Universal Health Institute in Chicago long enough to know me and the staff. He’d heard me talk about many of our non-pharmaceutical treatments and had a hunch that the work I’ve done teaching, Dr. John Demartini’s The Breakthrough ExperienceTM—particularly how I’d been using his method to find relief from and eliminate stress—might help Robin. That is where the story begins!

Tim was a fan of getting adjusted with the traditional hands-on chiropractic techniques, yet he appreciated what I had shared with him about Dr. Demartini’s method: Aligning the mind’s perceptions through asking a series of predetermined quality questions. Tim is a very curious man, and we had a regular dialogue about the human body and chiropractic concepts of healing from-the-inside-out, minimizing interference to the body’s own ability to heal, and the benefits and necessity of alignment. Tim felt certain Robin and I should meet, so he set up the first appointment. When I arrived at their home, ready to work, Robin graciously did her part, and agreed to work with me the following week, and the following…and the following! We worked beautifully together. It wasn’t until later that Robin told me how reticent she’d been to meet with me–or seek help for her problem! However, Tim’s diplomatic talent, plus his caring, confidence and persistence paid off. Now they are both fans of the natural healing philosophy of chiropractic.

In Robin’s book, the New York Times bestseller Morning Sunshine! she tells the story of her journey from panic to personal power. She shares details of her experience from many of our Saturday afternoon sessions together: her journey of healing, and the challenges of learning how to balance and shift her headspace to a healthier place. I love the fact that she reveals how she was, at first, doubtful and fearful to participate in the work I brought to her. There is no way to convey how diligently she worked! It certainly was worth it. After her treatment, Robin landed her dream job–a national TV anchor position! In fact, Robin left her Chicago television station to move to CNN in Atlanta to host HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade, and to become one of America’s most popular morning anchors.

For years I had been certified to use the Demartini Method, and had been successfully using it in one-on-one consultations with patients outside of my chiropractic exam and adjusting hours. It’s always been a perfect fit with what I have learned about traditional chiropractic: An excess or deficiency causes imbalance and dysfunction. That principle is applicable to the body or the mind. Whether I am working with my hands or with the Demartini Method questions, I aim to help the patient regain normal, healthy balance and function. When Tim asked me to work with Robin using Dr. Demartini’s method, I was glad I had the skills to help. I used different tools with her than I used with her husband, but the healing philosophy stayed consistent. As Robin says in her book, I “twisted her around to look” at herself! Using the Demartini Method, I was still a chiropractor, but using a different touch!

We all have our favorite stories, and Tim and Robin’s is one of mine. I love the fact that Tim was inquisitive about his care, and that he was thoughtful about it, continuing a dialogue about health care, and carefully listening and learning about the chiropractic philosophy, filing information for when he (or someone else) might need it. I love that he took a risk to try something that wasn’t conventional for someone he loves so dearly. And I love the fact that Robin believed in the healing power inside her, and was willing to trust the process of revealing that power. This story reminds me how much I admire and respect patients for referring the people they care about, and for listening to the voice of their inner doctor. As for Robin’s candid story in Morning Sunshine!, I can only say, “Bravo!” Robin, you will help many, many people think differently about their own journeys in healing.

An Excerpt from Robin’s book:

“THEN IT HAPPENED: THE BREAKTHROUGH!

“When I said those words, all of a sudden everything popped: Zzzzit! And I realized everything was in order. I was instantly quiet and humbled and my eyes filled with tears. I felt warmth spread all over me, and I knew I’d had a true breakthrough moment. Dr. Case got tears in her eyes, too, and there we were, crying and laughing and feeling that good vibration!

“Would you call that a miracle? I don’t know. But, in a way, it was like Moses parting the Red Sea because, in a blink of an eye, my dream was right there.

“Dr. Case helped me see that, as soon as I acknowledged the intention to broaden my perspective with humility, I gained the power to realize that dream.

And that’s exactly what happened! CNN Headline News came a-calling….”
