Hello Doctor,

C1_TAC_Vol34No01_144xLet’s get 2012 off to a great start from the beginning!  A clear vision of the destination from the inception is the only way to get where you want to go.  One person with a very clear vision for where he sees the future of chiropractic is Scott Haldeman, D.C., M.D., Ph. D., which he shares in his interview starting on page 20. The model he proposes is already in place through the World Spine Care mission, with a list of influential supporters that will surprise you. Dr. Haldeman has a long history in chiropractic, and has gone on to receive his M.D., as well as Ph. D.  Don’t miss this article, it’s an interesting proposal for where some circles are hoping the chiropractic profession is heading, and you need to know this if your peers are positioning themselves in this manner.

For those interested in treating athletes, don’t miss the article by Dr. Jay Greenstein on page 14.   Dr. Greenstein has officially broken into the sports chiropractic niche, and actively treats athletes from a variety of different sports, at the highest competitive levels.  If you want to do this with your clinic, this article will be a good first step down that road!

Another author who always deserves mention is Dr. Mark Studin.  Dr. Studin presents an interesting perspective through referenced research on exactly why it’s important to maintain the identity of the term chiropractic adjustment, as being unique and different from a manipulation when doing research, and billing for that matter. Turn to page 42 now to read more.

This and more inside, cover to cover!

C1 TAC Vol33No12 144xChristmas time, what a great time of year! No matter what religion you may be, we all know that Santa must have some back issues, most likely caused from eating all those cookies, right?  If not, judging by the cover, it looks like Mrs. Clause, D.C. has him enrolled in a postural correction program using the Pettibon Technique.

All joking aside, this issue, we’ve caught up with one of the true innovators of chiropractic technique for an interview, Dr. Burl Pettitbon.  The unique brand of chiropractic that Dr. Pettitbon has created was born out of his background in education and research, with a laser like focus on attaining measurable results through x-rays with regard to subluxation correction. Read more about the interesting findings of this pioneer on page 24.

Not to be outdone, Claude Cote, owner and founder of Platinum Systems shares his view on the EHR incentive program available to those chiropractors that demonstrate meaningful use, predicting that the commitments D.C.’s enter into with the government are actually going to end up much more costly than the incentive.  Take a look at “the other side of the medal” on page 40.

We’re very excited to bring you this issue, full of outstanding, year changing information, read this one cover to cover, and please don’t miss the opportunity to attain CE credits with the Distance Learning opportunity, brought to you in partnership with the University of Bridgeport on page 50.  Flip to page 48, to read Dr. Lehman’s interview explaining how to enroll, and see if your state accepts the 6 CEU credits available.

Have a happy holidays!  See you next year,

C1 TAC Vol33No10 144xWhat an interesting environment that chiropractors enjoy today, professionally. You’ll read from Dr. David Singer’s interview on page 42 that it hasn’t always been this way. Today, there are practices out there that are fighting for every dollar they are able to take in. In some instances, as Kathy Mills Chang explains in the article “What do Insurance Companies Really Want from Me?”, it’s about knowing exactly what the insurance companies are looking for that makes the case for your bill. This month’s feature topic is principally about compensation. There are a couple of models out there, and thankfully, we’ve been able to bring some of the experts in the profession right to your doorstep, with this October edition of The American Chiropractor.

Speaking of to your doorstep, if you get the chance to check the magazine out online, hook the computer up to your HD TV, and watch the video feed we have on the home page at www.theamericanchiropractor.com. You’ll find many previous interviews and articles archived there. While there, be sure to confirm your mailing address, and current states of licensure at the “request magazine” tab to receive the magazine.

It’s an honor being of service, until next month,

C1_TAC_Vol33No9_144xEvery major company that works in the service industry has some sort of a marketing plan.  Hospitals have one.  Pharmaceutical companies have one.  Nursing homes have one.  When it comes to the subject of marketing plans, wouldn’t it be nice if you had one?  Take the first step to marketing your chiropractic clinic in a clean, well studied, professional manner by reading  “Why Advertise?” on page 12, in which guest author William Salazar, gives you some guidance on just a few of the things he’s picked up along the way.

Eric Kaplan, D.C. revisits the pages with some words from Dr. James Parker on marketing, as applicable today as when they were first spoken.  Find the article “Marketing is a Frame of Mind” on page 18.  Chris Pleuger breaks down the modern social networking platforms in her article, “It’s Not Just About Google Anymore” for us on page 56.  That’s not all though, look to the right for other topics that interest you.

Speaking of social networking, be sure to follow us on twitter at AmericanChiro.

I’ll leave you with this quote from well known advertising consultant Stuart Britt, “For a business not to advertise is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but no one else does.”

Till Next time,

C1_TAC_Vol33No8_276xMeaningful use is hitting chiropractors at every level.  It has become the new buzzword of chiropractic.  This time, the influence is not coming from within the profession, but, meaningful use is being directed at chiropractors, and the management of their clinics.  It is a word, and attitude being foisted on us from our giant friends at the Federal Government, and rather than debate whether or not it is applicable or desirable, we have been able to get someone that can at least explain what to look for in a software, so you can be sure that what you are buying is what you need. Please take this opportunity to get a quick understanding of meaningful use certification, and what the difference is between modular and full certification.  It means everything if you want to work towards that big ‘ole government incentive. Turn to page 50 now, to see what I’m talking about.

This issue we’ve got articles on illegal inducement, IME abuse, why some high profile chiropractors mandate orthotics, an interview of a chiropractor that took third at the recent musclemania comptetion, as well as a plethora of other articles that will keep you on top of your game.  A perfect mix of continuing education, science, and some entertainment, this issue of The American Chiropractor is tailored just for you!  Take a glance at the table of contents to go directly to what interests you, or sit back, and flip page by page.

If you see something you like here within the pages, go to the website www.theamericanchiropractor.com, and let everyone know what you thought.  We post the content about a month after you get it in print.

Thanks for reading!

C1_TAC_Vol33No7_144xOne individual who is really helping to shift barriers in communication between the allopathic profession and the chiropractic profession is Dr. David Brady, Vice-Provost of Health Sciences at the University of Bridgeport.  A graduate of Texas Chiropractic College, Dr. Brady has unique insight and perspective to offer from his experience through his work.  Read more in this thought provoking interview of a modern day pioneer, at the forefront of the new frontier known as integrative healthcare.

It’s summer-time! As you’re sitting around the pool, enjoying the family, or people watching others around the pool, you may decide this is the perfect time to refine your technique, so take a look at the article, “Thoracic Kyphosis, Part I,” by Dr. Deed Harrison.  We’ve got a little bit of everything, just for you this July edition.

And, if you go to the website www.theamericanchiropractor.com, feel free to add a link to any article you like, from your website, “like” us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter.

C1r1_TAC_Vol33No6_276xThat’s right, it’s summer time, my favorite time of the year.  We’re bringing a very special interview of a chiropractor who has reached the absolute top of his sport, with Terry Schroeder, D.C.  This man has lived an extraordinary life, from competing in the Olympics, to coaching the Olympics, and winning medals while doing it!  Turn to page 18 to read this inspiring journey, the son of a chiropractor, to practice owner, to coach, the profile of a true leader!

Continuing with the summer theme, you or some of your patients may be noticing that last years swimsuit doesn’t quite fit as well as it used to.  It’s no secret that the waistline of the U.S.A. is expanding faster than you can say debt reduction, and with that in mind, just glance to the right, to learn what all we have in store for you.  These authors are providing, just for you, tremendous guidance on the issue of weight reduction, new approaches, and some even bringing back old philosophies that just need to be enacted into daily life to yield success.

These topics and more, to expand your consciousness, and reinvigorate your day!  Please, if you see something that you think should be commented on, go to the website at www.theamericanchiropractor.com, leave the comment, and see what others think about your position.

Till next time!

:dropcap_open:I:dropcap_close:f you’re going to do something, do it right, right? That’s exactly what Steve Yeoman, D.C.

MayCover1

tells you how to do, with the article, “The Critical Piece for Quality Documentation”.  This article is a quick overview of what you need and why, when it

comes to Outcomes Assessment tools.  Don’t miss this opportunity to expand what you are doing in practice, for yourself, and your patients found on page 28.

As chiropractors, many of you Docs out there identify yourselves as experts in posture.  This issue, we’ve got perspectives from three of the profession’s experts on this very topic, starting with an analysis of the impact that the condition of scoliosis has on those diagnosed with it, brought to you by Josh Woggon, D.C., and Glenn Robinson, D.C., of the CLEAR Institute on page 14.  Dr. Burl Pettibon’s summary of the “why” when considering the reality facing many chiropractors out there of non-permanent subluxation correction may introduce new concepts to some of you, on page 18.  Wrap it all up with the interview of  Deed Harrison, D.C., of Chiropractic Biophysics on page 54.  That’s right, we’ve got’em all.

If that’s not enough, Dr. Dan Murphy has something that will raise everyone’s attention level a couple of decibels.  Turn to page 50, for his review of the literature relating vertebrobasilar ischemia with auto accidents.

Read this one, like you read every other, cover to cover.  Be sure to pick up the phone, and call our sponsors if you happen to find something that interests you, mention you saw it in The American Chiropractor Magazine!

Thanks, and all the best!

:dropcap_open:T:dropcap_close:here are now 12 million cancer survivors in the United States according to the most recent statisticspresented by the CDC.  Although many go on to live with no side effects, some of them experience agonizing side effects associated with peripheral neuropathy as a result of their Chemotherapy Treatments.  Dr. John Hayes has become

april2011cover2an expert on just this topic.  Flip to page 14 now, to read how he’s been helping this demographic that is so in need of relief.

Assisting with the survivors is not the only way chiropractors can help though.  Turn to page 24 to take a look at what the Cancer Treatment Centers of America has been doing through the addition of Chiropractic and other integrative measures to their treatment programs.  This inspiring work from the people on the front lines of Cancer treatment is shared through the article  “The Role of Chiropractic in an Integrative Setting.”

In times of crisis, economic or otherwise, one should always be on their toes for subversive tactics being used by “well meaning” people.  I think it is safe to say, the United States, and specifically the healthcare delivery system, and the insurance industry are in a state of crisis.  Dr. Stu Hoffman lays out very clearly what you should be on your toes for, beginning on page 20, in his article “The Professional Liability Risk Dynamic.”

Packed like always, from cover to cover, from debates on the validity of the Cobb Angle (p.40) to Chiropractic being the key to electing the 46th President (p.36), this one is a Gem!
